Event Description:
The 2011 TriSports.com Halfmax Championship and Myrtle Beach Triathlon have been selected to host one of the events in the USA Triathlon Elite Race Series. Myrtle Beach was chosen as one of the six race series events that will help prepare the U.S. athletes for the 2012 Olympic Games.
With the debut of the USA Triathlon Elite Race Series in 2011, USA Triathlon has created a domestic, six-event series that delivers an opportunity for the nation’s top Olympic-distance triathletes to compete for significant prize money and a series title — all while honing the draft-legal racing skills necessary to challenge for the podium at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The six events that comprise the series will be held in Clermont, Fla. (March 5), Monroe, Wash. (June 25), San Francisco (July 9), Miami. FL (May 22), Buffalo, N.Y. (Sept. 24) and Myrtle Beach, S.C. (Oct. 9). Each site also will host an age-group race in conjunction with the elite event. The race will feature a maximum field of 200 elite athletes and will offer a $50,000 prize purse.
Race Format: The professional Elite Series Race will be held on Sunday and will feature an entirely different format from Saturday. We are planning to host 2 separate professional races on Sunday. Each race will have 75-100 participants. Each race will be run to completion before the next races is started. Example: The entire professional women’s race will complete the swim, bike and run segments in their entirety before the professional men’s race is started.
